How we research the atlas
MyPiece is a reference, so it's only as good as its sourcing and its honesty. Here's how it's made — and the lines we won't cross.
First-party and researched
Every district and reference page is written in-house. District entries are researched against local and authoritative sources and cross-checked, and each one carries its own sources list. Hallmark data is taken from the official national bodies — assay offices, mints, and standards authorities — and the diamond and gemstone reference follows the GIA standards used across the trade.
Independent
We are independent and not affiliated with, sponsored by, or paid by any jeweller. Nothing here is a paid listing, and no business can buy its way into the atlas. The site carries advertising to fund the work; ads are clearly marked and never influence what we write or how a place is described.
What MyPiece is not
It is a reference guide, not an authentication, valuation, or appraisal service. Marks and standards vary by date and metal, and a photo can't replace a loupe. For a definitive identification or value, take a piece to the relevant assay office or a qualified, certified appraiser.
How we handle uncertainty
Where sources conflict, a detail can't be verified, or a mark's exact form is in doubt, we say so on the page rather than present a guess as fact. We'd rather flag a gap than fill it with something we can't stand behind.
