MyPiece is a static editorial site. There are no accounts to create and nothing to log in to, so we collect very little. This explains what little there is.
Because MyPiece has no accounts, listings, or user submissions, the information involved is limited to:
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't build user profiles.
We use third-party advertising, including Google AdSense, to support the site. These vendors may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to collect information from your device in order to serve ads and measure their performance, sometimes based on your visits to this and other sites.
Google's use of advertising cookies is described on its How Google uses data page. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings, the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out, or your browser's cookie controls. Opting out stops personalised ads, not all ads.
Analytics. Where you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how the site performs, so we can improve it. It uses cookies and similar identifiers. We keep it to plain measurement — we don't enable Google Signals or cross-site ad profiling through it. We also use Vercel's cookieless analytics (see section 5), which needs no consent.
Maps. Some pages — the Atlas map and the birthstones globe — load interactive maps from Mapbox. When a map loads, your browser contacts Mapbox directly, and Mapbox processes technical data such as your IP address and your interactions with the map in order to serve the map tiles, under its own privacy terms. Pages without a map never contact Mapbox.
Affiliate links. Some pages — the district and birthstone shelves — carry Amazon affiliate links. If you click one, Amazon (and the link-localisation script we may run on those pages (Amazon OneLink)) may set cookies or collect data to attribute a resulting purchase and pay us a commission; that click-out is governed by Amazon's privacy notice. We may also record an anonymous outbound-click event, subject to your consent where required (UK/EU). We never receive your payment details or learn what you bought.
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. On MyPiece the non-essential ones come from the advertising and analytics described above. Vercel's analytics is cookieless and always on.
Nothing non-essential runs until you allow it. If you're in a region with consent laws (such as the UK, EU/EEA, or Switzerland), a consent banner appears before any advertising or analytics cookie is set. You can accept all, reject all, or choose which purposes to allow — advertising and analytics are separate, so you can permit one and refuse the other. Until you choose, Google AdSense and Google Analytics stay switched off. We use Google's Consent Mode so those choices are honoured at the source.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the “Manage cookie choices” option in the banner, or by clearing cookies in your browser. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.
MyPiece is hosted on Vercel, which provides global delivery, caching, and security. In the course of serving the site, Vercel processes technical data such as IP addresses and request logs in line with its own privacy terms.
We don't sell your personal information. We share data only:
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data involved. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold, or to opt out of marketing. Since we hold little more than emails you've sent us, exercising these is usually straightforward — just write to us.
MyPiece isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
MyPiece is an editorial directory: we research carefully and cite our sources, but details about real places and businesses change, and some information may be incomplete or out of date. Always verify specifics — hours, prices, availability — directly with the business before relying on them.
The "What stone is this?" tool sends the photo you choose to Google's Gemini API to generate a result. The image is downscaled on your own device first — which strips its EXIF metadata, including any GPS/location — then sent for that single request, processed transiently, and not stored by us. Google's handling of data sent to its AI services is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Example reference images shown with a result are loaded from Wikimedia Commons; when they load, your browser contacts Wikimedia directly. The tool creates no account, profile, or saved history.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Updated" date at the top of the page.
