Voluntary BIS gold hallmarking began in 2000; it became mandatory in 2021, with gold tested at BIS-recognised Assaying & Hallmarking Centres before sale.

The caratage and millesimal fineness together, e.g. 22K916, 18K750, 14K585.
HUID
6-digit traceable ID
A unique six-character alphanumeric code, introduced July 2021 and required since April 2023, linked to the jeweller and centre.
